Sod turned for NEW Town Office

Sod was turned on August 13 at the site of the New Town Office for Ste Rose du Lac and by Thursday afternoon
of the same week the excavating was done and the main perimeter footings had been poured.
The New Town Office will be at 722 Central Avenue. The building, a single story structure, wood frame construction,
and will have a brick front and stucco siding. It will also have truss rafters supporting a metal clad roof.
Inside the New Office Building will be two offices, as well as a reception and main working area.
There will be a Council Chambers, a fireproof records vault, washrooms, and a staff room.
The main work area and council chambers will have vaulted ceilings. The building should be bright and cheery
with many windows all the way around.
Town Council opted to take on the role of general contractor themselves for the building's construction.
"We did this to ensure that local trades were given an opportunity to be a part of the construction," said Mayor Rene Maillard.
"The target date for the NEW TOWN OFFICE to open is January 2002."
The estimated cost of the building, including furniture and equipment, is $300,000.
The town has had a reserve fund for the past several years that they have been building to help cover the costs.
